Archers coach Libby inducted in Hall of Fame

The Missouri Basketball Coaches Association inducted 11 people into its Hall of Fame last month, including St. Louis Community College’s own Kenneth Libby, assistant men’s basketball coach. “I think it’s great,” he said. Libby has coached 43 years at Christian Brothers University, Mehlville High School, Lindbergh High School and St. Louis Community College. His record is 548-405. Why does Libby like about coaching? “It’s not only about seeing (players’) improvements on the court,” he said, “but getting these kids to keep up with their academic goals as well.” […]

Lady Archers raise $3,000 for leukemia patient

The St. Louis Community College women’s basketball team recently played its second charity basketball game to help a cancer patient. The Lady Archers raised $3,000 for Kane Weinberg, 19, of Trenton, Ill., a student at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He has been battling leukemia for two years. […]

Injured player tries coaching

The St. Louis Community College women’s basketball team has lost a key player due to injury. Sophomore guard Daytona Ball, 21, tore two ligaments in her right knee on Dec. 15, when she landed awkwardly during a game against Southeastern Illinois College. Ball underwent surgery and will be out the rest of the season. She insists the team will be fine. “I’m not the only leader out there,” she said. “Everybody on the team is a leader. We have to look out for each other, and we all have to step up big time.” The Lady Archers miss being on the court with Ball, their leading scorer, who averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds per game. They won three games and lost five in January. […]
