Forest Park students do what it takes to get by day after day, but why do it alone?
That’s the question being asked by organizers of the Black Student Union, a new club formed to connect students and help them maneuver through school.
The club president is Cameron Howard.
“I want to be able to build community, specifically among black folks, but also anybody willing to join,” he said.
This will be the second club of its kind at St. Louis Community College, with the other being on the Meramec campus.
The Forest Park club will meet from 12 to 1 p.m. Tuesdays in study rooms of the library building’s basement.
Its five organizers now serve as officers. That includes Aminata Kamara, vice president; T.R.“Ransom” White, secretary of legation; Daliyah Anton, secretary of operations; Michael Nkenchor, head of information technology; and Jordan Waddell, organizer of events.
Students can join the club if they want to get more involved in the community, grow as people or do some networking, according to Howard.
“You never know (if) that one friend that you talk to in class everyday might get you that job,” he said.
Students interested in joining should look for black flIers with QR codes in the library and other areas of the campus.
The code will take you to a sign-up page. You will be asked to provide information about yourself, including name, major and reason for joining.
Organizers said the club should be fully up and running by spring semester, and they’re excited to welcome new members.
