Campus Life made a few changes to Spa Day this year, focusing on “retail therapy with a healthy swing.”

At least that’s how Manager Donivan Foster described it.

Activities ranged from vendor booths to a free buffet of healthy food options and tips on general health and wellness.

“This is a chance for students to de-stress around midterms,” Foster said. “It was a success.”

The event ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 10 in Cafe West. Culinary arts student and Paparazzi Jewelry vendor Barbara Brown thought it had a good turnout.

“I got here around 1 and saw about 20 people,” she said.

Other vendors included representatives from Avon, Vic’s Essential Oils, Jigga Juiced Up and Beadiful Treasures.

“I would have liked to expand it a bit more,” said Foster, noting other vendors who were invited couldn’t make it.

The buffet offered healthy options such as fruit, vegetables, hummus, pasta, chicken salad and infused waters.

“It was nice,” said Campus Life Administrative Clerk Jasmine Armstrong, who worked at the event. “I saw a few students come in and browse around the vendors. They came in, got some food, bought and purchased things. It was cool.”

Previous Spa Days have featured massages by professional masseuses.

“The group we typically use was out of town,” Armstrong said.

But lack of availability was only one factor, according to Foster, who liked the idea of a more vendor-focused event this year.

“We wanted to try something new,” he said. “We always have a masseuse.”

Campus Life hopes to make the next Spa Day, which will be held during spring semester, even better with relaxation activities involving service dogs and hands-on crafts such as painting.
“We’re always taking suggestions,” Foster said.
