A gutsy thief stole a car from Parking Lot C in the middle of the afternoon on the Wednesday before classes started for spring semester. Archers women’s basketball guard Deborah Holcomb has been racking up the accomplishments. First, she was named National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Player of the Week. Then she became the first Archers shooter to score 1,000 points by hitting six shots and a free throw in the first 11 minutes of a home win against Three Rivers Community College. The St. Louis Community College volleyball program, which had its 2014 season canceled, will be back this fall and looking to rebound. Shawn Summe, the district’s new athletic director, has hired Chris Arbini as the team’s new coach. “You see his experience in the club levels and his background in coaching at the collegiate level as well,” Summe said. “That really made the difference.” Arbini has a couple of immediate goals. It was one of the coldest, most brutal winters I could remember, with arctic winds chapping my cheeks and turning my hair into brittle strands.
